About Spin the Globe / travel

Been there, done that. It sounds cliché, but to our clients, it means a world of difference to know that we have been to all of our featured destinations, slept in the hotels, eaten in the restaurants, and taken the tours to determine their wheelchair accessibility. Our company was born out of a deep passion for travel and the desire to share our amazing wheelchair accessible experiences with others who want to travel, but perhaps aren’t sure how or just want a little extra help.

Spin the Globe / travel prides itself on outstanding customer service and the personal touch. Because we are a boutique agency, we don’t drive customers to certain travel suppliers so we can make more money on commissions. We find accommodations and experiences that suit your specific needs because we know from extensive personal experience how important that is for wheelchair users.

If we have not personally stayed at or visited a hotel, we request photos of their accessible rooms so you know what to expect from your accommodations when you arrive. We consult extensively with tour guides so they understand their routes need to be step free and near accessible bathrooms at regular intervals. We also provide you with an accessibility guide for our featured destinations (and other locations if time allows for preparation) so you have an idea of accessible sights you can visit and places near your hotel where you can eat. All you have to ask yourself now is, where do you want to roll today?

About Sylvia Longmire

Spin the Globe / travel owner and consultant Sylvia Longmire is a service-disabled veteran, mother, author, consultant, entrepreneur, world traveler, and the reigning Ms. Wheelchair USA 2016. She traveled extensively from an early age and during her time as an Air Force officer and Special Agent. After she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005, her ability to walk started to deteriorate. Fortunately the progression of her MS was slow enough that she could gradually adapt to new ways of living.

sylvia longmire ms wheelchair usa 2016Sylvia also had to learn how to travel with a walker, and eventually with an electric scooter. Her work as a consultant has taken her all across the United States, and her addiction to leisure travel has taken her (and her scooter) as far as the deserts of Dubai and the glaciers of Alaska. She often travels alone, and is continually invigorated by the kindness and offers of help from strangers in every corner of this beautiful world. Her goals are twofold: to educate people at home and abroad about the needs – and capabilities – of disabled travelers, and to encourage people with disabilities to leave their fears behind and seek adventure. With Spin the Globe / travel, Sylvia hopes to share the excitement and wonder she has experienced through her travels by helping others find ways to explore the world.

When she’s not helping others travel or traveling herself, Sylvia works as a consultant and subject matter expert on Mexico’s drug war and border security issues. She has two books in print, Cartel and Border Insecurity, and she has appeared on most major national news and radio networks. She is a single mom to two amazing boys, who inspired her to form The PreJax Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides college scholarships to students with MS or a parent with MS.
